With the temperatures dropping and fall ending, winter is coming. With Winter comes festive drinks, and Common Grounds has recently released its winter drink menu, including some new selections for the holiday season. These include iconic seasonal beverages such as the Peppermint Mocha Frappe, Sugar Cookie Frappe, and Gingerbread Frappe.
For those not up to date on all the different coffee choices out there today, a Frappe is a drink from Greece that loosely translates to ‘iced’. It usually consists of ice, espresso, sugar (or flavoring), and milk, which are blended to create a milkshake-like consistency. Common Grounds also offers other Iced Drinks for the cold coffee lover, including Gingerbread Latte, Sugar Cookie Latte, and Peppermint or White Chocolate Mocha. The differences in these fantastic holiday drinks lie in the ingredients, flavor, and serving temperature. A latte is made with espresso and steamed milk, and a mocha is a latte with added chocolate.
Chai is a combination of spice powders popular in southern Asia, originating in India. Some of the spices used in chai are listed below, including cloves, peppercorn, cardamom pods, nutmeg, and ginger powder.
According to some of the baristas at Common Grounds, some of the students’ favorites here include the Frozen Hot Chocolate and the white chocolate mocha.
Many of these seasonal items will soon be replaced with other drinks once winter ends. If you’d like to try any of these items, head down to Common Grounds, located right of Guidance in the Commons!
