It seems Cinderella wore a military suit this year! The Soddy Daisy High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (J.R.O.T.C.) hosted its annual Military Ball just after Valentines Day, bringing together cadets, faculty, and community members for a night of tradition, camaraderie, and celebration. The event, held at Mountain Heights Venue on the 15th, showcased the discipline, dedication, and unity of the J.R.O.T.C. program, while honoring the values of leadership, service, and patriotism.
The evening began with a formal receiving line, where cadets in their Class A uniforms greeted guests with sharp salutes and warm smiles. The ballroom was adorned with patriotic decorations, including the flags of the five military branches, centerpieces featuring miniature sabers, and was decorated in the theme of a Movie Theater
The ceremony commenced with the traditional posting of the colors by the school’s Color Guard, followed by the national anthem. Cadet Battalion Commander Linsey Suttles delivered opening remarks, reflecting on the importance of the Military Ball as a time-honored tradition that strengthens bonds among cadets and reinforces the values of the J.R.O.T.C. program.
The highlight of the evening was the ceremonial saber arch, where senior cadets formed an arch with their sabers for the battalion commander and their guest to walk through. This symbolic gesture was met with applause and marked the official start of the evening’s festivities.
Guests enjoyed a formal dinner, followed by speeches from special guests, including Colonel Glass, a retired army Colonel and J.R.O.T.C. instructor. Colonel Glass shared inspiring stories of their military career and emphasized the importance of perseverance, integrity, and service to others.
The evening concluded with dancing, as cadets and their guests took to the floor for a mix of rock and roll and modern music. The event also included a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the unity and shared commitment of the J.R.O.T.C. program.
For many cadets, the Military Ball was a memorable culmination of their hard work and dedication throughout the year. “I’m glad to be a part of this program,” said Gabe Lewis, a senior in the program. “I wanted to thank you for the night.” He told the First Sergeant as he left.
The Soddy Daisy High School J.R.O.T.C. program continues to be a cornerstone of the school community, instilling values of leadership, teamwork, and service in its cadets. As the night came to a close, it was clear that the Military Ball was not just a celebration, but a testament to the enduring legacy of the J.R.O.T.C. program and the bright futures of its cadets.
