Former Republican President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has been elected the 47th President of the United States, according to CNN.
Donald Trump and his Vice President, J.D Vance, will be inaugurated as President and Vice President on January 20th, 2025. Trump will be the second President to have served nonconsecutive terms, Grover Cleveland was the first to do so, being the 22nd and 24th President.
Trump was born and raised in Queens, New York, on June 14, 1946, to parents; Fred Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod. He grew up in a very wealthy family, receiving a $400 million inheritance. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in economics. In 1977, he married Ivana Zelníčková, and had 3 children, due to an affair, they divorced, and Trump went on to marry 2 more times, having 2 more kids. Trump renamed his father’s real estate business to the ‘Trump Organization,’ where he made a business conglomerate starting numerous other successful businesses.
Trump started his political career claiming Obama was foreign-born and not an actual citizen. He ran and won the 2016 Presidential election, being the only President ever to have lost the popular vote, be impeached, and lose reelection. In 2020, he lost to Joe Biden, whose VP, Kamala Harris, was Trump’s main opponent.
James David Vance was born in Middletown Ohio, on August 2nd, 1984, to parents; Beverly Carol and Donald Ray Bowman. Vance enlisted for the Marine Corps soon after he graduated high school, he was a military journalist where he wrote articles and took photos. He received both the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. After he left, he graduated from Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science and philosophy.
He then attended Yale University, receiving a Doctor of Law degree in 2013. It was during his time at Yale that he would write his famous book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ which won numerous awards and went on to be a movie. Vance started his political career working for Republican Senator John Cornyn, then went on to work as a lawyer, law clerk, and venture capitalist. In 2022, Vance won the Republican Senate primary in Ohio, where he continues to serve. He was nominated as Trump’s vice president and will be the first millennial to serve as vice president.
