The JROTC program has taken its students on a rafting trip down the Ocoee river! Students were able to enjoy a wonderful trip down the river through Ocoee rafting, a rafting company known for its wonderful safety record.
The Ocoee (pronounced oh-koh-ee) river is a beautiful place, which has become the most popular whitewater rafting destination in America. It has an unparalleled safety record, proven by the river’s extremely low casualty rate. The rapids go as high as level IV, and are as tall as 3 feet, which can be a riveting experience especially for anyone new to rafting. It’s surrounded by green woods, and the water’s clarity is phenomenal.
“It was extremely wet, and I enjoyed it overall,” says Gabe Lewis, one of the members of the trip and the co-writer of this report. “The comradery amongst strangers was quite nice.” The water speed varies a lot. The raft normally went as fast as the cadets paddled, but once they entered a rapid, it became a bumpy, adrenaline fueled rollercoaster. Almost every member in Gabe’s raft fell out at least once, including himself. When he fell off of the boat, he spent almost a full minute being whisked away by the water before managing to clamor back onto the raft with his fellow cadets.
