“I expect to win state,” said Coach Nunley when describing the future of her 5th season coaching the SDHS lady Trojans softball team. This upcoming sports season is jam packed with seven sports: softball, baseball, tennis, track, boy’s soccer, and boy’s and girl’s lacrosse. I spoke with the SDHS coaches and athletes who are hoping and preparing for their 2023-2024 season.
Softball and baseball are both firing up this spring with Coach Nunley for the softball team and Coach Higgins with the baseball team. Both expect a long and exciting season.
Tennis and track will also kick off their season this spring. Mr. Fussell will be coaching the tennis team for his second year. I spoke with Mr. Fussell and this is what he had to say about the 2024 season. “We have a strong team this season, both boys and girls. I am looking forward to a successful year with high hopes for a district championship for both! Come out and support our team! We play at Middle Valley Park, with home matches beginning at 3:30 PM.” Mr. Selbo will be the track team coach for his 18th year of coaching. In an interview, Mr. Selbo said, “We are looking forward to a great season. We have one of the largest teams we have had at Soddy Daisy High with many extremely talented athletes.”
Boy’s soccer will also kick off there season in the upcoming spring with Mr. Steele as the head coach. For his 10th year of coaching, he is “hoping for a successful season with a large freshman class.”
Girl’s and Boy’s lacrosse will also spring into action this upcoming spring season. Jamie Edmondson is over the girl’s team this year for her 3rd year coaching lacrosse. Mrs. Edmondson said, “This season our goal is to make it to the playoffs. This will be a huge accomplishment for our team considering this is the 3rd year of having a girls lacrosse team at Soddy Daisy High School.”
The SDHS community is excited for this upcoming spring season as we are expecting to win. For all schedules please go to our Scores and Schedule section.
