Growing up as a child, Percy Jackson and his epic journey through the modern version of Olympus enticed many different kids and brought them through the adventure of a lifetime. After what many avid readers would describe to be a failed attempt at a movie adaptation from producer Chirs Columbus, Disney Plus picked up the famous young adult series with a chance at redemption.
Percy Jacson and the Olympians was released after much anticipation by the fans of the book series on December 19th and began to release an episode every Tuesday for the duration of the series. To avoid repeating the ultimate failure of the original movie series, Disney Plus decided to hire the author behind the series, Rick Riordan, to oversee the television series and ensure the decisions regarding casting, production, and script-changes stay true to the originality of the books.
Fellow student and dedicated follower of the book series and the tv series, Chairs Huff enthusiastically explained, “I was really excited to see Walker (Percy), Leah (Annabeth), and Aryan (Grover) bring their characters to life! The racial representation seen in different characters was also super awesome to see..”
The main concern of the series was the pacing of the series. Some episodes were only 32 minutes long, while the season finale was 41 minutes. This time discrepancy was the major turnoff for most people and is hoped to be fixed in the second season.
The final episode of the first season aired Tuesday, January 30th, leading viewers and readers alike to wonder about the possibility of being renewed for a second season. Just yesterday, Disney branded television president, Ayo Davis, commented, “We’re thrilled to embark on an exciting new quest and a season two with Rick Riordan, our fantastic partners at 20th Television, and the exceptional ensemble of cast and creative talent that bring this story to life.”
Charis Huff states, “I’m excited to see where this season, and hopefully the three following it, will take us!” Similar to Huff, many avid fans have taken to social media to show their excitement for the next season. While it will likely be another year before we get season two, fans are already buzzing in anticipation for the next season to come.
